Sunset at 1770

Where to Watch the Sunset in 1770 like the Locals Do

Updated: October 21, 2025

There’s something magical about watching the sun melt into the horizon in 1770. Maybe it’s the calm water of Bustard Bay, the soft golden light over the headland, or that relaxed coastal energy that makes time slow down. Whatever it is, locals will tell you that sunset in 1770 isn’t just a view, it’s a ritual, especially on Friday night!

Here’s where they go when it’s time to say goodbye to another stunning day on the Discovery Coast.

1770 beach at Endeavour: The Classic View That Never Disappoints

Ask any local and they’ll tell you: this is the sunset spot. The sky will deliver panoramic views across Bustard Bay, with the ocean glowing in deep golds and or pinks (or a mix!) as the sun dips behind the horizon. The photo at the top of this article is the one I took at Endeavour park beach in 2015 when we’d just moved to Agnes Water.

Bring a picnic, a camera, and a bit of time. The magic happens in the half-hour before the sun sets and may last a while after it has set, depending on the seasons.
💡 Note: it’s ok to bring your pet on leash at 1770 beach! Get in early as the car park can get busy. Please don’t park across the road on the grass in front of the houses, especially if you see witches hats!

Hop on 1770 Sunset Cruises

There’s nothing quite like watching the sky light up from the water. The crew at 1770 Sunset Cruises have made it an art form: an easy, relaxed trip through Round Hill Creek as the sun melts into the bay with the most delicious cheese platters.
You’ll pass by mangroves, pelicans and boats bathed in golden light, with a BYO drink in hand and sea air in your face.

Prefer to keep your feet on land? Join the locals at the 1770 Marina, where the end of the day is best celebrated with a cold drink and good company. Find a spot on the wooden benches, pour a glass of something fizzy, and watch the reflections dance on the water as fishing boats return home.
